Live Radio Programs on Facebook

Lutheran Hour Ministries Thailand – Journey Into Light (LHMT) is experimenting with a new way to do outreach.  About 2 weeks ago we started to broadcast 3 live radio programs on Facebook.  The programs are Because You are loved; Encouragement for You and  Relieve Your Worries.

The programs are aired after 1:00 p.m. each week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.  Each program is 25-30 minutes long and contains very helpful information for people to have a happy life and to learn something about God’s love.  During the first weeks of using this format for our radio programs, our staff has been happy with how well it has worked and the responses that we have received from listeners.

Live Radio Program

While our Lutheran Hour Ministries Thailand (LHMT) staff was conducting the Children’s Day activities on Saturday, January 14, 2017, our director was at a commercial radio station in Bangkok with 2 volunteers answering phone calls for the regular Saturday afternoon live radio program, “Home for Love.” Because it was Children’s Day our radio speaker focused on the role of children in the family and their relationship with their parents.

A total of 32 listeners called in to receive a free children’s gift set during the 1-hour program. Twenty of the callers were first-time contacts for our ministry.  We look forward to making follow-up contacts with them in the coming weeks.

Visit to Radio Stations in Phang Nga Province

During the trip to conduct Listener Gatherings in Khok Kloi and Takuapa in Phang Nga Province, our Lutheran Hour Ministries Thailand (LHMT) staff and radio speaker also were able to visit two radio stations in that area.

The station in the town of Khok Kloi broadcasts on FM 97.25MHz. and is operated by Voice of Navy 14 Phang Nga.  Our LHMT staff and radio speaker were able to meet the agent there.  She said that the LHMT programs were very good and gave a lot of encouragement to the listeners.

When our team went to the town of Takuapa they were able to visit Radio Thailand Takuapa, FM 90.25MHz. The director encouraged us to continue producing our programs to be aired on that station.

We’re thankful that our team was able to meet the people at the radio stations and to get feedback from them about our radio programs.  We thank God that they enjoy our programs and that they want to continue broadcasting them in their area.

Good Response to Program Honoring Mothers

During our Lutheran Hour Ministries Thailand (LHMT) live radio broadcasts on August 6 and 13 the main topic of the programs was giving honor to mothers in connection with the Thailand Mother’s Day on August 12.

To help our listeners celebrate we gave away free Mother’s Day T-shirts to people who telephoned our staff during the radio program.  A total of 42 people called and gave us their contact information.  Some callers planned to wear the T-shirts on Mother’s Day.  Others told us the T-shirts were going to be a gift to their mothers on Mother’s Day.

We are very happy that so many listeners contacted us during the radio program and that they appreciated the T-shirts so much.  We received many good comments about the T-shirts and the live radio broadcasts.  We thank God that we are able to reach out to the people of central Thailand with encouraging messages through the live programs and to tell them about God’s love for them through Jesus Christ.  We look forward to having more contact with them through our follow-up activities in the coming weeks.

Programming Changes for the New Fiscal Year

With the beginning of our new Lutheran Hour Ministries Thailand (LHMT) 2016-2017 fiscal year some changes have been made to our ministry activities. Funding for our “Relieve Your Worries” radio program at a station in Phang Nga Province has been moved to our “Because You Are Loved” program at a radio station in Nakhon Sawan Province. We continue to broadcast our “Encouragement for You” program on another station in Phang Nga Province.

We also have started to broadcast our “Relieve Your Worries” program at a station in Nakhon Ratchasima Province in northeastern Thailand. One of our LHMT radio speakers is using the northeastern dialect with that program. This is the first time that we have aired our programs in that area. We thank God that we’re able to proclaim the Gospel in a new part of Thailand and we look forward to working with some of the churches in that area.

Listener Shares Christian Message with Hospital Patients

On Saturday, August 29, 2015, the Lutheran Hour Ministries Thailand (LHMT) director answered the telephone at a commercial radio station in Bangkok.  From 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm every Saturday LHMT broadcasts a live radio program called Home for Love and invites listeners to call the station to talk with LHMT personnel, to greet the radio speaker and to receive a free gift.

As the LHMT director talked with the callers, she was very happy to hear their positive comments about the radio program.  They found the program to be interesting, because the speaker offered very practical and useful information for their families.

One phone call was especially interesting.  Ms. Rattana Rodpai works at a hospital in Samut Prakan.  She has been listening to the LHMT live broadcasts for several years.  In the past she called in during the live broadcast and received some free Christian booklets from LHMT.  Ms. Rattana liked the booklets so much that she began reading them to some of the patients in the hospital.

The main reason that Ms. Rattana called in on August 29 was that she wanted to encourage the radio speaker and let him know how much she enjoys the program.  When the LHMT director asked Ms. Rattana if she is a Christian, she replied, “Almost.”  She said that she’s very interested in learning more about the Bible and Christianity.

The LHMT director will call Ms. Rattana very soon to begin building a relationship with her and to ask if she is interested in studying the LHMT Bible Correspondence Course.

Please pray for Ms. Rattana, that the Holy Spirit will continue to work in her heart and bring her to faith in Jesus.

Radio Speaker Returns for “Home for Love” Live Program

Home for Love5

Mr. Umnuay Ruangchan

The Lutheran Hour Ministries Thailand (LHMT) radio program, “Home for Love,” has a new design and a new sound.  Those changes are the result of having a new speaker.  Mr. Umnuay Rungchan is now the voice of the program, which is broadcast live for one hour every Saturday afternoon on a commercial radio station in Bangkok and the central region of Thailand.

Mr. Umnuay is a former LHMT radio speaker who has returned to take responsibility for writing and broadcasting the “Home for Love” program.

The program gives a variety of family information, how to be a successful family, along with Christian love, songs and encouraging Bible verses.  Listeners tell us that the program provides very practical information and encouragement for their daily lives.

With the change in speaker the program continues to operate very well.  During each live broadcast between 5-15 listeners call in to talk with our LHMT staff.  Each week different LHMT staff members receive the incoming phone calls.  They answer the phone, respond to the callers’ questions or comments, ask for the contact information of the callers and help arrange continued contacts with the callers.

Both the LHMT staff and radio speaker enjoy leading and participating in this radio program and plan to be involved well into the future.

We thank God for giving us the opportunity to broadcast this live program each week and for the people who call in to talk with our staff.  We also thank God for the positive feedback that we get regarding the program.  Please pray for God’s continued blessing on Mr. Umnuay and for everyone who hears this program.
