Planning Meeting with Radio Speakers

Once each month the Lutheran Hour Ministries Thailand (LHMT) director and staff meet with the 3 LHMT radio speakers.  During their meetings they evaluate the programs from the past month and make plans for producing the programs for the next 4 weeks.

One Fiscal Year Ends, Another Fiscal Year Begins

Every year the end of May is a very busy time in our Lutheran Hour Ministries Thailand (LHMT) ministry center.  Because May 31 is the end of our fiscal year our director and accountant have a lot of work preparing the financial reports for our auditors to review.   Our director also needs to write the monthly ministry report and conduct the routine work that keeps our program running smoothly.  Our LHMT team looks back over the previous 12 months to evaluate our ministry activities and check to see if we have reached our goals for the year.

We thank God for the many blessings that He has given us during our 2015-2016 fiscal year.  God gave us safe travel during our many trips across Thailand to conduct Listener Gatherings, Equipping the Saints evangelism workshops and School Outreach presentations.  We have been blessed to meet and work with many wonderful pastors and church members and to receive great feedback from many people who have enjoyed listening to the radio programs that we produce.  We always are grateful and feel encouraged by the stories we hear from people whose lives have been changed by God’s Word through our radio programs, our Bible Correspondence Courses and our Christian pamphlets, tracts and other published materials.

We are very thankful for the commissioned volunteers that God has given us in various parts of Thailand and for the people who have been supporting us financially and through their prayers.  We also appreciate the guidance, support and encouragement that we have received from our leaders and staff at the Lutheran Hour Ministries headquarters in St. Louis.

But May is also a time for our team to prepare for the new year ahead.  New radio programs need to be produced, new materials written and more workshops and gatherings conducted.  We thank the Lord for leading us and empowering us for the work He has planned for our team to do during the 2016-2017 fiscal year.

Please pray that the Holy Spirit will clearly show us God’s plan and direction for us as we move forward in the coming months.

LHMT Director Meets with Advocacy Board

In June the Lutheran Hour Ministries Thailand (LHMT) director met with the LHMT Advocacy Board. Their 2-hour meeting began with a devotion and included approving the minutes from their previous quarterly meeting, hearing a report about the LHMT ministry activities during the previous 3 months and a report looking ahead to learn about what’s planned for the coming 3 months.

Although only 3 of the 5 Board members were able to attend the meeting, the director received excellent suggestions and encouragement from those who were present. The Board members are very supportive of the ministry and always do their best to provide guidance. Because the director and Board members seldom see each other, they enjoyed a good time of informal conversations after the meeting.

Their next meeting will be in September.

Routine Work Builds Team Work

TeamA lot of basic behind-the-scenes work is necessary for the Lutheran Hour Ministries Thailand (LHMT) director and staff to be able to conduct their ministry programs. Materials need to be prepared, printed and stored in cabinets. Radio programs must be written and recorded.  Gift sets have to be packed.  Planning meetings and contacts with radio stations and listeners are important elements in the daily ministry routine.

Last Friday the LHMT team spent time trimming plants and flowers, reorganizing and cleaning outside the ministry center. One advantage of having the team ocassionally involved in these activities is that they enjoy working together rather than working individually in their workrooms and studios.

Good relationships among the LHMT team members has a positive effect on the overall ministry programs, especially Equipping the Saints workshops, Listener Gatherings, the school outreach program and other activities.

LHM Directors from Asia Enjoy the Second Half of their Annual Workshop

The Lutheran Hour Ministries (LHM) Asia Regional Workshop continued Wednesday morning with morning devotions and prayer, followed by a session on the Theology of Evangelism Part 2.  All of these were led by Dr. Rutt.

After the morning break Mrs. Deborah Rutt conducted a session on Fundraising.  The afternoon session began after lunch with Mrs. Deborah leading the third session on Fundraising.

Following the afternoon break Rev. Richard Fox from Australia did a session a One-Minute Radio Spots.  The afternoon was closed with a presentation by Mrs. Gunya Na Thalang on A Core Principle in the Stewardship of Giving.  Dinner and individual sessions with Mrs. Gunya completed the evening.

When breakfast and a devotion were finished Thursday morning, all of the workshop attendees went to observe a ministry activity at a GKPI school in East Jakarta.  The last activity before lunch was a visit to the LHM Indonesia ministry center.

The afternoon sessions focused on Muslim Outreach in Indonesia and LHM Ministry Matters.  After dinner a farewell party was planned for everyone to attend.

After breakfast and a devotion Friday morning, Dr. Rutt did a short presentation on Leadership Practices.  After the break Mrs. Gunya conducted a short closing session and workshop evaluation.  Mrs. Monta Ekwanit Denow, LHM Thailand country director, said a prayer to close the workshop.  After lunch most of the people attending the workshop went to the airport to catch flights back to their home countries.  The remaining country directors departed on Saturday.

Although the workshop schedule was quite full everyone felt tired, they also were happy to have this time together.  During the sessions they learned a lot of helpful information and they had many opportunities to talk personally with each other and to enjoy spending time together.  Everyone seemed to think that the workshop was a success and they already look forward to meeting together again next year.

Please pray for Dr. Rutt and his wife, Deborah, and Mrs. Gunya as they return to the United States and for each of the country directors as they continue their many ministry activities in their countries throughout the Asia region.

LHM Asia Regional Directors Meet in Jakarta for Annual Workshop

Asia Workshop22

The Lutheran Hour Ministry (LHM) country directors throughout the Asia region are meeting in Jakarta, Indonesia, from November 8-13, 2015.  This annual meeting, held in different countries each year, is a good chance for the country directors to meet with Dr. Douglas Rutt, the LHM International Director and Mrs. Gunya Na Thalang, the Asia Regional Director, to discuss structure and strategy and to receive in-service training regarding a number of ministry issues.

After arriving Jakarta on Saturday, November 7, the group attended worship together at a local Lutheran church and then visited Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, an Indonesian cultural site.  This unique park provides a miniature Indonesia through which visitors can walk to experience many of the various cultures found throughout the country.  Following dinner at a local restaurant, Mrs. Gunya provided a short welcome and introduction to the group.

Following breakfast and a devotion Monday morning led by Rev. C. David, the country directors met as a group in a session about LHM New Structure and Strategy and and then three sessions about LHM Digital Outreach.  The last session of the day was How to Effectively Use Internet/Social Media to Proclaim the Gospel in Asia.  In the evening some of the directors were able to have individual meetings with Mrs. Gunya to discuss their specific ministry needs, opportunities and challenges.

Tuesday morning began with a devotion and prayer led by Dr. Rutt.  He then conducted a session on The Theology of Evangelism.  After the morning break, Rev. Dr. Purnawan Tenibemas, Rector of Tyrannus Seminary in Bandung, Indonesia, presented a session on Muslim Outreach in Asia and Indonesia.  After lunch Mr. Hai Au, country director from Vietnam, led a session on how LHM Vietnam uses the internet and social media to conduct its ministry outreach and Dr. Rutt shared some online ministry personal experience.  During the last session in the afternoon Dr. Rutt informed the group about the various resources that are available for them to plan special celebrations for the 500th anniversary of the Reformation in 2017.

Although the days are quite full with meetings and presentations, the country directors are able to enjoy some informal time together during meals and breaks and in the evenings.  This is very valuable for them to be able to get to know each other better, to encourage one another and to look for ways in which they might be able to partner together in some ministry activities.

LHM Thailand Staff Join Worship Workshop

Worship Seminar16Two staff members from Lutheran Hour Ministries Thailand (LHMT) attended a workshop on worship and liturgy held at Concordia Into Light Lutheran Church in Bangkok from June 22-26, 2015.  Lutheran church pastors, musicians and members attended from Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia and Myanmar.

The LHMT staff are worship leaders at their church, so this workshop was very meaningful to them.  They learned what the Bible says about worship and how worship and liturgy have changed since the time of Jesus.  Discussions during the workshop also focused on ideas for preparing liturgy and worship for use in local congregations today.

Other LHMT staff assisted by providing music during morning devotions and preparing snacks and lunches for the 30 workshop participants.
