The First ETS of the Year

ETS Khonburi7On Saturday, June 25 the Lutheran Hour Ministries Thailand (LHMT) director and staff conducted the first Equipping the Saints (ETS) evangelism workshop for the 2016-2017 fiscal year.  A total of 45 people from 9 churches arrived early in the morning at Khonburi Church in Nakhonratchasima Province to participate in the training. Because it was about a 5-hour drive from Bangkok, the team had to travel on Friday and Sunday.

When plans were being made to do this workshop 11 churches were expected to attend. However, one church had to cancel. The group from another church was halfway to Khonburi Church when they had to return home because they were informed that a church member had been killed.

Pastor Chumroen Burinok arranged for this training because his church has been airing all 3 LHMT radio programs for more than a year on the church’s community radio station. The programs are Relieve Your Worries, Encouragement for You and Because You are Loved. Pastor Chumroen and the members of his church were very happy with the quality of our LHMT radio programs and wanted to learn more from our team.

Everyone who joined the ETS training seemed to enjoy worshiping and studying together throughout the day. The members from all of the churches participated enthusiastically in the activities and had a good time getting to meet each other.

At the end of the day 29 participants signed up to become our commissioned volunteers in that area and 34 people enrolled to receive weekly encouraging Gospel text messages on their mobile phones.

Pastor Chumroen asked us to conduct a Listener Gathering at his church on October 15 for the Relieve Your Worries program. Our LHMT director and team look forward to working with Pastor Chumroen and his church members again.

One Fiscal Year Ends, Another Fiscal Year Begins

Every year the end of May is a very busy time in our Lutheran Hour Ministries Thailand (LHMT) ministry center.  Because May 31 is the end of our fiscal year our director and accountant have a lot of work preparing the financial reports for our auditors to review.   Our director also needs to write the monthly ministry report and conduct the routine work that keeps our program running smoothly.  Our LHMT team looks back over the previous 12 months to evaluate our ministry activities and check to see if we have reached our goals for the year.

We thank God for the many blessings that He has given us during our 2015-2016 fiscal year.  God gave us safe travel during our many trips across Thailand to conduct Listener Gatherings, Equipping the Saints evangelism workshops and School Outreach presentations.  We have been blessed to meet and work with many wonderful pastors and church members and to receive great feedback from many people who have enjoyed listening to the radio programs that we produce.  We always are grateful and feel encouraged by the stories we hear from people whose lives have been changed by God’s Word through our radio programs, our Bible Correspondence Courses and our Christian pamphlets, tracts and other published materials.

We are very thankful for the commissioned volunteers that God has given us in various parts of Thailand and for the people who have been supporting us financially and through their prayers.  We also appreciate the guidance, support and encouragement that we have received from our leaders and staff at the Lutheran Hour Ministries headquarters in St. Louis.

But May is also a time for our team to prepare for the new year ahead.  New radio programs need to be produced, new materials written and more workshops and gatherings conducted.  We thank the Lord for leading us and empowering us for the work He has planned for our team to do during the 2016-2017 fiscal year.

Please pray that the Holy Spirit will clearly show us God’s plan and direction for us as we move forward in the coming months.

LHMT Director Meets with Advocacy Board

In June the Lutheran Hour Ministries Thailand (LHMT) director met with the LHMT Advocacy Board. Their 2-hour meeting began with a devotion and included approving the minutes from their previous quarterly meeting, hearing a report about the LHMT ministry activities during the previous 3 months and a report looking ahead to learn about what’s planned for the coming 3 months.

Although only 3 of the 5 Board members were able to attend the meeting, the director received excellent suggestions and encouragement from those who were present. The Board members are very supportive of the ministry and always do their best to provide guidance. Because the director and Board members seldom see each other, they enjoyed a good time of informal conversations after the meeting.

Their next meeting will be in September.

LHM Thailand Team Attends Celebration to Honor the Thai King

70 King's Throne 4On June 10, 2016 our Lutheran Hour Ministries Thailand (LHMT) director and staff, along with a local pastor and LCMS missionary attended a special program to celebrate the completion of the Thai king’s 70th year on the throne. The Thai king is the world’s longest reigning monarch.

Attended by the leaders and many members of the 5 Christian organizations registered with the Department of Religious Affairs of the Thai government, this was an opportunity to praise God and honor the Thai king. Those organizations include the Evangelical Fellowship of Thailand, The Church of Christ in Thailand, the Baptist Church, the Catholic Church and the Seventh Day Adventists. LHMT is registered with the Thai government under the Evangelical Fellowship of Thailand.

The organizers of the program had hoped that 1,200 people would attend, but more than 2,000 Christians participated in this special celebration.

The program included a poem and songs giving honor to the king, a Thai dance performance, some special songs that were written by the king and a prayer for the king and Thailand.

LHM Thailand Director Participates in Couples Seminar

Our Lutheran Hour Ministries Thailand (LHMT) director and her husband joined a couples seminar sponsored by the Thailand Concordia Lutheran Church (TCLC) from June 1-3, 2016.  The seminar was held in Khao Lak, Phang Nga Province in southern Thailand and attended by 7 TCLC pastors, several church leaders and their wives.  Our LHMT director is the secretary of the TCLC leadership committee.

In spite of experiencing heavy rains every day our director is thankful for the chance to attend the seminar.  Not only did she learn some good ideas about strengthening her relationship with her husband, but she also was able to interact more personally with the pastors and church leaders and to get to know them better.

Former Chairman of the Evangelical Fellowship of Thailand, Rev. Dr. Silawech Kanjanamukda  and his wife were the main speakers and TCLC chairman, Rev. Ted Na Thalang and his wife led the couples in some special activities.
