More than Jewelry

Booth1In an effort to make contact with more people in the community surrounding the Lutheran Hour Ministries Thailand (LHMT) ministry center in Bangkok and to share the Gospel, the LHMT staff set up a table next to the street in front of the entrance to their building. On March 28 and 29, 2016, the two days after Easter, the LHMT team handed out free cross necklaces and booklets.  The booklets explained that the cross is not just jewelry, but it is a symbol reminding Christians of the death of Jesus for the forgiveness of sins.  In the booklet the people also could read that Jesus arose from the dead on Easter Sunday and is still alive today.

The LHMT team also was broadcasting one of the LHMT radio programs about the meaning of Easter through a sound system near the table. To receive these free gifts the individuals who stopped at the table only had to provide their personal contact information so that LHMT staff can do follow-up activities with them in the future.  More than 150 people accepted the necklaces and booklets.  The LHMT Audience Relations Department will be reaching out to them in the coming weeks.

Bright Teeth and Happy Feet Project Reaches Another Three Schools

BTHF Suphanburi06The Lutheran Hour Ministries Thailand (LHMT) director and staff conducted the Bright Teeth and Happy Feet project for three schools in Nongyasi District, Suphanburi Province on March 15-16, 2016.  The first school was Ban Thaptatan School.  The program was very well organized by Pastor Chumpol Khumphanyaem from Porntawee Church.  A total of 135 students participated in the program.  After lunch the older students led everyone in brushing their teeth with the items that they received in the LHMT gift packs.  They also checked the teeth and tongues of the younger students.  In the afternoon the LHMT team went to Ban Nong Nae School where they repeated the program for the 92 students there.

Ban Thapluang School was the site of the program on the second day.  There the LHMT team did the activities with 136 students.  In the near future Pastor Chumpol will visit these three schools again with some of his church members to do follow-up activities.

This was not the first time that Pastor Chumpol had contact with these schools.  In the past he has invited students and teachers to visit his church for the church’s Christmas programs and other activities.  Because Pastor Chumpol has developed such a good relationship with the schools, the students know where Porntawee Church is.  It is expected that there will be more interactions between the church and the schools in the future.

LHMT Conducts Second ETS Training in Kamphaeng Phet

ETS Kamphaengphet40At a monthly meeting of the Kamphaengphet Christian Club the members decided to invite Lutheran Hour Ministries Thailand (LHMT) to conduct an Equipping the Saints (ETS) training for pastors and church members in their area.  They worked with LHMT to organize the program for Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Saman Samakkee Kamphaengphet Church in Muang District, Kamphaengphet Province.

Pastor Atikom Jantabluang and members of the church were excellent hosts and everyone worked well together, so that everything went smoothly during the day-long training.  A total of 85 people attended from 8 churches.  They found the training to be very practical and useful.  They enjoyed the worship time they had together and appreciated all the good information shared by the LHMT director and staff.

At the end of the day the participants were confident that they would be able to use the simple methods they had learned to share their faith with family members and friends in their communities.  Because they were interested in continuing to work with LHMT, 30 people asked to become commissioned volunteers for LHMT.

Since LHMT did an ETS program at this church 5 years ago, this was a good chance to build closer relationships with them and to meet many new people in that area.  We hope to do more programs with them in the future.
