Christmas Activity in Front of Our Ministry Center

Lutheran Hour Ministries Thailand (LHMT) always tries to do activities that provide opportunities to share the Gospel on holidays.  Christmas is a good example of that.

Many people in Thailand see Christmas displays and hear Christmas music playing in shopping malls.  They know something about Santa Claus and that many people give gifts at Christmas.  Many schools even have Christmas parties.  Christmas is a natural time for celebrations and special activities.

On December 24-25, 2015, our LHMT team did an activity in front of our ministry center.  They set up a table on the side of the street, set up a sound system, played Christmas music and a radio program produced by LHMT.  They also invited people to receive a free gift pack and to sign up for some prizes.  Included in the gift packs were a key chain, a Christmas booklet and tract and the first lesson of the LHMT Bible Correspondence Course.

At the end of the 2-day activity 431 people had given their contact information, heard the Gospel through the Christmas songs and radio program, had a personal conversation with at least one LHMT staff member and received a gift pack.

In addition to the gift packs, our staff also gave prizes to a number of people whose names were drawn from a basket.  Some friends of our LHMT ministry and a few businesses near our ministry center also donated some prizes, including a mobile phone.

When the LHMT director and staff conduct their various ministry activities throughout Thailand, they always refer to local churches people who have provided their names and contact information.  It’s important to have local churches make follow-up contacts with as many people as possible.

Because the LHMT ministry center is just a 2-minute walk from Concordia Into Light Lutheran Church, they planned to refer people there.  To help the referral process, the church offered 4 free English classes to anyone who signed up with LHMT.  A total of 17 people registered for the English classes.

The English classes will be taught by LCMS missionary Dennis Denow and long term volunteer Robin McCoy.  The classes will meet for one hour on 4 Sunday afternoons in January 2016.  Pastor Sompong Hanpradit and some church members will assist with the classes.  These classes provide an opportunity for the church to serve people in the surrounding community, to have more people learn about the church and enter the church and to begin building relationships with people from the community.

The LHMT director and staff will work together with Concordia Into Light Lutheran Church to do follow-up activities with the people who join the English classes and others who signed-up during the Christmas activity.
