We thank God that our Lutheran Hour Ministries Thailand (LHMT) director and staff had a good time doing our Christmas School Outreach Program in Chainat Province on December 14-15. 2015.

Ajarn Urai Khao-iam and members of Chainat Church arranged for us to do our Christmas program at 2 schools.  Monday afternoon 290 students in grades 1-6 and 485 students in grades 7-12 at Rajaprajanugroh 46 Chainat School participated from 1:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

The main purpose of our Christmas School Outreach Program is for the students and teachers to learn the true meaning of Christmas.  Many people in Thailand know the story of Santa Claus coming at Christmas, but few know that Christmas is a celebration of the birth of Jesus, the Savior of the world.

To help the younger children understand what Christmas is, we show them a short Christmas video, “Red Boots for Christmas.” With the older students we do an English activity that uses the 9 letters in the word “Christmas” to explain about the birth of Jesus, who Jesus is and what He has done.

Throughout our Christmas program our LHMT staff lead the students in singing a number of songs and doing some fun activities.  We give small prizes to those who participate in a special way and at the end of the program everyone receives a gift pack.  Included in the gift packs are some candy, a keychain with a small soft animal attached, a Christian tract and the first lesson of our LHMT Bible Correspondence Course.

The children enjoyed our program and participated well.  Before we left the school 54 students signed up to join music classes and Chinese language classes offered by Chainat Church.  Through these classes Ajarn Urai and church members will have personal contact with some of the students. LHMT staff will refer to the church the students who join our LHMT Bible Correspondence Course.

Tuesday morning, December 15, we visited Wat Rongwua School.  The 121 students in grades 1-6 and the 54 students in grades 7-9 joined together to sing the songs and to do the activities.  When it was time to teach them the true meaning of Christmas, the younger children watched the Christmas video and we took the older students to another room to do the English activity with them.

All of the students received gift packs and 21 students signed up to participate in the music classes and Chinese classes at Chainat Church.

We very much enjoyed getting to know the people from Chainat Church and partnering with them in this program.  We thank God for them and we hope that we’ll be able to do some ministry activity with them again in the future.
