LHM Thailand Staff Join Worship Workshop

Worship Seminar16Two staff members from Lutheran Hour Ministries Thailand (LHMT) attended a workshop on worship and liturgy held at Concordia Into Light Lutheran Church in Bangkok from June 22-26, 2015.  Lutheran church pastors, musicians and members attended from Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia and Myanmar.

The LHMT staff are worship leaders at their church, so this workshop was very meaningful to them.  They learned what the Bible says about worship and how worship and liturgy have changed since the time of Jesus.  Discussions during the workshop also focused on ideas for preparing liturgy and worship for use in local congregations today.

Other LHMT staff assisted by providing music during morning devotions and preparing snacks and lunches for the 30 workshop participants.

Ministry Booth and Product Sale at Thai Christian School

Booth05In Bangkok there are not a lot of Christian bookstores, so it’s not easy for many Christians to purchase Bibles, Christian books, Christian music CDs and other items.  From June 17-19, 2015 the Christian students and teachers at Thai Christian School in Bangkok had that opportunity.  During those days some Lutheran Hour Ministries Thailand (LHMT) staff were at the school with many products from the LHMT Christian bookstore and with displays and other information about our various LHMT ministries.

When they had breaks throughout the day and after school many students and teachers visited the LHMT booth to talk with our staff and to buy Christian T-shirts, jewelry, Christian music CDs and books and other products.  This also was a good opportunity for our LHMT staff to share the Gospel with some of the non-Christian students.

This was not the first time that LHMT did a ministry booth and product sale at Thai Christian School.  For one week each June the school has many special activities for the students and they invite LHMT to come.  Each time LHMT has been at Thai Christian School we have had successful product sales and a number of students have signed up to begin receiving encouraging Gospel messages on their mobile phones.  This year was no exception.

Whenever we visit Thai Christian School it is a double blessing.  The Christian students and teachers appreciate being able to obtain the items from our bookstore and it’s another chance for us to do a good fund raising activity to support our ministries.  Our LHMT staff always enjoy meeting and talking with the students, especially those who don’t know Jesus as their Savior.

We thank God for His blessings during our three days at Thai Christian School.  We pray that the students who receive our Gospel text messages will learn more about Jesus and will respond positively to God’s Word.

LHMT Hosts Visitors from Arizona

Visitors14The Garuna Foundation is a Christian organization in the United States that has been supporting a variety of ministry projects in Thailand for a number of years.  The chairman is Rev. Dr. Jeffrey Ehlers, a former Thailand missionary from the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod.  Almost every year Dr. Jeff brings a team of visitors to Thailand to learn about the culture and to observe the ministries of several different Christian organizations.  He and his wife, Cheryl, came to visit Lutheran Hour Ministries Thailand (LHMT) with a group of 11 people on June 10, 2015.  Most of the group members were teachers from Christ Lutheran Church in Phoenix, Arizona.

From 10:00 a.m. until noon the group toured our ministry center in Bangkok.  They met our LHMT director and staff, watched a video presentation about our ministry activities and had a chance to ask many questions.  Two of their big questions were how our LHMT team members became Christians and how Buddhism is different from Christianity.

It was a pleasure for us to meet the Arizona group and we enjoyed welcoming them into our ministry center and sharing our ministry with them.  We always are happy to host visitors and look forward to meeting other teams in the future.

After visiting the ministry centers in Vietnam and Myanmar, Mr. Kurt Buchholz, President and CEO of Lutheran Hour Ministries, Rev. Dr. Douglas Rutt, Director of International Ministries and Mrs. Gunya Na Thalang, Asia Regional Director, arrived in Bangkok on Friday morning, June 5, 2015.  The director and staff of Lutheran Hour Ministries Thailand (LHMT) were at the airport to greet these special guests and to welcome them to Thailand.

After checking into their hotel the leaders had lunch at the ministry center with the LHMT team and then spent the afternoon touring the building, viewing a ministry presentation and getting to know the LHMT staff.  The local team was able to interact personally with the leaders and learn more about them.

From 10:00 am until noon on Saturday, June 6, the LHM leaders met with four of the Advocacy Board members and four LHMT radio speakers.  They spent some time introducing themselves to each other and then the LHM leaders shared an overview of LHM work around the world and some of the challenges LHM faces in each country.  Mr. Kurt, Dr. Rutt and Mrs. Gunya expressed their appreciation for the work of the LHMT staff, the radio speakers and board members in support of the ministry in Thailand.  After the meeting everyone enjoyed having lunch together.

Then the LHM leaders and LHMT team went into central Bangkok to observe the LHMT live radio broadcast from 2:00 pm-3:00 pm.  The leaders were able to see how the Home for Love program is being used to share the Gospel with Thai people in 14 provinces surrounding Bangkok.

In the evening the LHM leaders and LHMT team had a special invitation to attend the wedding reception of the daughter of one of the LHMT Advocacy Board members.  This was a good opportunity for the leaders to experience another part of Thai culture.

On Sunday morning the leaders from St. Louis attended worship at Concordia Into Light Lutheran Church in Bangkok.  Dr. Rutt gave a wonderful sermon, which the church members appreciated very much.   At the end of the worship Mr. Kurt gave greetings to the church members.  Everyone had a good time eating lunch together at the church.

The last event on the schedule for the LHM leaders and LHMT director was attending dinner and a unique culture show at Siam Niramit.  The delicious food and excellent production provided a great ending for the weekend activities.

With just a few hours of sleep, the LHMT director and Mrs. Gunya accompanied Mr. Kurt and Dr. Rutt from the hotel to the airport at 3:30 am, where all of the LHMT staff were waiting to say goodbye.  We really enjoyed meeting Mr. Kurt and seeing Dr. Rutt and Mrs. Gunya again.  We appreciate their visit, their encouragement and support and we pray that God will give them a safe trip home and continue to bless them in their ministries.
