ETS Seminar in Khon Kaen

ETS Khonkaen03On May 24, 2014 the Lutheran Hour Ministries Thailand (LHMT) director and staff did an Equipping the Saints (ETS) training at Thai in Jesus Phetchabun Church in Phetchabun Province. The church is a member of the Thai in Jesus Church Association. At the end of the ETS training the church association chairman invited LHMT to do an ETS training at another Thai in Jesus Church Association congregation.

That ETS training was held at Thai in Jesus Khok Ngam Church in Ban Fang District in Khonkaen Province on May 23, 2015. The LHMT team did the usual modules, songs and activities with the 45 people who attended.

The response from those who attended was very positive and 42 people became LHMT commissioned volunteers. A total of 29 people signed up to begin receiving encouraging Gospel text messages from LHMT every week. The church also asked for 20 copies of the LHMT Children’s Bible Correspondence Course.

This was a good step in building a strong relationship with the Thai in Jesus Church Association.  We pray that we can cooperate in different ministries in the future. This is the last ETS training of the 2014-2015 fiscal year.

New Contacts through Product Sale and Ministry Booth

From 6:00 pm – 10Booth3:00 pm on May 18, 2015 Pantasanya Bandonglang Church in Suphanburi Province had a day of meetings and special activities.  The church invited Lutheran Hour Ministries Thailand (LHMT) to sell items from our Christian bookstore throughout the day.  It’s quite difficult for many Christians in Thailand to have access to Christian materials.  We were able to offer for sale a variety of Christian books, booklets, pamphlets, animated movies, music CDs, shirts, jewelry and other items.  The people attending the meeting were very grateful to be able to purchase these products and it was an opportunity to do fund raising for LHMT.

Our LHMT staff also was able to set up a ministry booth, so the people from the church could learn more about who LHMT is and the types of ministry activities we do.  As a result, we were able to make many new contacts.  Nearly 100 people visited our booth and signed up to receive free Christian music CDs.  Eight people asked to begin receiving the encouraging Gospel text messages from LHMT on their mobile phones each week.

We thank God that we were able to meet new people and to begin building a relationship with Pantasanya Bandonglang Church.  We hope that we will be able to do some activities with them again in the future.

Meet Our Staff – Mr. Siam Chommee

2014 Thanksgiving27

mr. Siam Chommee

This is the second article highlighting our Lutheran Hour Ministries Thailand (LHMT) staff members.  We hope you enjoy getting to know them more personally.  In the coming months we will introduce you to the rest of our LHMT team.  We ask that you remember them in your prayers.

Mr. Siam Chommee, whose nickname is Yam, has been working for Lutheran Hour Ministries Thailand (LHMT) since March 2006. He is primarily involved with outreach and church relations. His responsibilities include communicating with pastors, church leaders, teachers and school administrators to arrange evangelistic training for pastors and church members and special outreach activities with listeners, students and others in their communities.

Yam has a master degree from the Thai Theological Seminary and is a worship leader in his church.  He also often leads worship times during our Equipping the Saints workshops and other programs.

He is married to Sommboon and has 1 son whose name is Shore. Before they were married, Yam learned about Christ from his wife and became the first Christian in his family in 1992. He has 3 older sisters and 1 older brother, all of whom are still Buddhists.

Gardening, fishing, playing and watching soccer are among Yam’s favorite pastimes. He loves children and often can be seen playing with children during LHM activities.  Yam also enjoys telling people about Jesus.

Please pray for Yam and his family, especially his siblings, that they also may come to know Jesus as their Savior.

Celebrating a Return to the Airwaves

When the Thai military took over the government in a bloodless coup in May 2014, they closed all community radio stations. The government planned to evaluate every community radio station to be sure that their equipment and programming are up to the required standard.

Porntawee Church, located in Nongyasai District in Suphanburi Province, operates a community radio station as a mean of doing outreach in their area. On May 3, 2015 they hosted a Listener Gathering to celebrate the good news that the government had given approval for them to reopen their radio station.

The Lutheran Hour Ministries Thailand (LHMT) staff traveled to the church to conduct the Listener Gathering. From 6:00-8:00 p.m. they led songs, games and fun activities and provided dinner for the 100 people who attended.

Listener Gatherings are a good opportunity for listeners to meet the radio speaker and LHMT staff. It also makes it easy for the pastor and church members to meet the listeners and to begin building relationships with them. This Listener Gathering was unique, because Mr. Chumpol Khumphanyaem is the LHMT radio speaker and the pastor of Porntawee Church.

We thank God that Porntawee Church has been allowed to reopen their radio station, so that they can continue to broadcast LHMT programs to the people in their community.
