A group of visitors from the United States came to visit our Lutheran Hour Ministries Thailand (LHMT) ministry center on November 10, 2014.  Led by former Lutheran missionary to Thailand and director of the Garuna Foundation, Rev. Jeff Ehlers, the group of 11 people was learning about ministry in Thailand and Cambodia.

During their time at our ministry center the group saw a video presentation that introduced them to all the areas of our ministry in Thailand, had a tour of our facilities and did some shopping in our Christian bookstore.

One of the couples, Vernon and Marvel Nelson from Holdrege, Nebraska, have been supporting Lutheran Hour Ministries for many years.  The LHMT director met them at the Lutheran Hour Ministries convention in Saskatoon, Canada in 2012.  Vernon said to the director, “When we met you in Canada I never imagined that we’d have the chance to come to Thailand to see your ministry.  We’re very excited to be here!”

They were especially interested in our programs and the materials that we have developed for sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ throughout Thailand.  Our LHMT team was very happy to be able to meet them and to give them the opportunity to see in more detail the work that they have been supporting.

An Evening of Blessings

Every year Journey Into Light – Lutheran Hour Ministries Thailand (LHMT) holds a Thanksgiving Banquet to honor and show appreciation for all of the friends and donors connected with our ministry.  This year’s banquet was held from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Saturday, November 8 with nearly 200 people attending.

The program started with a time of worship, let by some of our LHMT staff and friends.  Pastor Taweep Oiwan shared a message from Ephesians 2:8-10 and Lutheran Hour Ministries Asia Regional Director, Ms. Gunya Na Thalang, brought greetings from the LHM headquarters staff and friends in the United States.

2014 Thanksgiving51The LHMT director gave a presentation about how God blessed the LHMT ministry programs and activities during the past year and shared her personal appreciation for all the financial and prayer support the donors provided.

In addition to sharing information and thanks, the evening included some fun activities.  The LHMT bookstore staff, Ms. Kanda Teabrattana, did a beautiful Thai traditional dance and other staff led the guests in some fun games and songs.

Two of our former staff, Mr. Orarit Singjanusong and Pastor Tanongsak Pong-oodta, also helped make the evening more special.  Mr. Orarit made sure that the sound system worked well all evening and Pastor Tanongsak sang two songs during the program that he composed.

One very enjoyable activity involved a very talented father and son duo, Mr. Thanakorn Kankaewrat and Mr. Dhanadej Kankaewrat.  While Mr. Dhanadej played the keyboard and sang a beautiful song, his father painted a wonderful acrylic picture.  The idea was that Mr. Thanakorn had to finish the picture by the time that his son finished singing the song.  It was very interesting to watch and everyone was quite amazed at the quality of the painting.  After completing the painting, it was auctioned to the highest bidder as a donation to the LHMT ministries.

Two special speakers talked about their good relationships with LHMT.  One was Mr. Pitsanu Ponpai, the chairman of Concordia Into Light Lutheran Church.  He spoke about the good partnership that the church shared with LHMT and how much the members appreciated LHMT for leading a special Christmas outreach program at the church every December.

Mr. Pitsanu also explained that LHMT often brings volunteers to do special activities at the church when teams come from the United States.  The church has been blessed by new Christian contacts that LHMT referred from our outreach programs.

Another speaker was a donor, Mrs. Prasert Panyamankong.  She told how she has enjoyed supporting LHMT for many years and intends to continue her support.  Mrs. Prasert explained that she is eager to support our ministry, because she respected the director and staff for being such humble servants of God and doing such good quality work in all of our ministry programs.

We are very grateful to all of the people who volunteered to help make sure that everything went smoothly all evening and for the guest speakers, singers and worship team for volunteering their talents.

We thank God that everything with the banquet went very well and we’re happy to hear that everyone is already looking forward to next year’s banquet.
