Ministry Booth and Product Sale

???????????????????????????????From  8:00 am – 3:00 pm on June 18-20, 2014 Lutheran Hour Ministries Thailand (LHMT) had an opportunity to do a ministry booth and product sale at Thai Christian School in Bangkok.  During those days a Christian organization was doing special activities at the school, so the product sale fit well with that program.

Each day during breaks in their schedule and at the end of the day, the students and teachers were able to visit the LHMT area to purchase Bibles, Christian books, Christian music CDs, Christian T-shirts and jewelry and various other products from our Christian bookstore.  At the ministry booth they learned about the different LHMT ministry programs and had a chance to visit with our LHMT staff.

Not only was this a good chance for LHMT staff to sell products and introduce our materials to the teachers and students, but also 10 students and teachers signed up to begin receiving encouraging Gospel messages on their mobile phones and the school asked for 50 copies of the LHMT Bible Correspondence Course to give as prizes to the students.

Participants Enjoy Attending ETS Training

ETS Suuratthani20A total of 58 pastors and church members from 10 churches in Suratthani Province attended the Lutheran Hour Ministries Thailand (LHMT) Equipping the Saints (ETS) training on June 14, 2014.  The Body of Christ Church hosted the day-long training, which included 5 teaching modules, a time for worship, learning some Christian songs, enjoying fun activities and building relationships between the members of the different churches

The 5 modules helped the participants get to know about the ministries of LHMT, learn a biblical basis for why we do evangelism and provided time to practice using several practical ideas for how to witness to unbelieving family and friends.

The feedback from the people who attended was very positive.  In addition to appreciating the teaching sessions, everyone seemed to enjoy meeting people from the other churches in their area.  They especially liked learning the simple, but very helpful ideas for ways in which they can tell others about Jesus.  Everyone said that they would definitely use these ideas to share their faith with others.

One church asked for 25 copies of the handouts from the training, so that they could do their own evangelism training with more of their church members.  Another church asked for 50 Children’s Bibles and a third church asked for 50 copies of LHMT’s adult Bible Correspondence Course materials and 10 copies of our children’s Bible Correspondence Course materials.

To be able to continue working with LHMT, 14 people signed up to become LHMT commissioned volunteers and all 58 people who attended the training asked to have LHMT begin sending encouraging Gospel text messages to their mobile phones each week.

One of the churches that had members attend the training operates a community radio station and has been using many LHMT radio programs for several years.  To show their appreciation for the help they have received from LHMT, the church members brought a financial donation for LHMT.  Another LHMT donor, who lives in Suratthani was not able to come to the training, but sent a donation for LHMT with one of the other church members.

We thank God for blessing the training and for safe travel for the LHMT team and all participants.  We also are thankful that two of the people who attended the training have been Christians for only about one month.  This was a good opportunity for them to meet many other Thai Christians, to grow in their faith and to learn how to begin sharing their new faith with their family and friends.  Please pray for them, that they will continue to learn more about the Bible and keep growing closer to Jesus.

Learning to Pray Gives Peace in Her Heart

Pastor blessing Angie (3rd from left)

Pastor blessing Angie (3rd from left)

Atchariyaporn Ekwanit (Angie), age 16, and her younger brother lived with their aunt in Mukdahan Province in northeastern Thailand.  A few years ago Angie’s mother and brother were in a serious car accident. Her brother had only minor injuries, but her mother was killed. Soon after the accident, Angie and her brother moved to Bangkok to live with their father.

Angie and her brother were invited to attend Concordia Into Light Lutheran Church by the Lutheran Hour Ministries Thailand (LHMT) director.  At the church Angie felt a warm welcome from the church members and became interested in observing Christian worship and fellowship. Angie began to attend regularly and has become interested in knowing more about Jesus and Christianity. She said, “I want to know more about how Jesus saves people and how he can save me.”

She recently started studying the LHMT Bible Correspondence Course (BCC) and attending Bible classes at church Sunday mornings. Angie feels good when attending church, because it gives her hope and she feels happy to know what Jesus has done for her.

As Angie became more familiar with Christian worship and built close relationships with the church members, she wanted to be involved, so she volunteered to light the candles at the beginning of worship. Angie is learning to play guitar and hopes that she will be able to join the praise band.

During Sunday worship and when spending time with church members, Angie has come to understand the importance of prayer. Through the BCC and the example of others, Angie has been learning how to pray. Angie says, “I pray for my studies, for my brother and especially for my father.  My father is a sales manager, so he drives a lot around Thailand.  Because of the way that my mother died, I pray that God will protect my father when he travels.”  Being able to pray that God will protect her father, gives Angie peace.

When she has school breaks, Angie volunteers to help the LHMT staff pack gift sets for people attending Equipping the Saints workshops, the Christmas school outreach program and other LHMT activities.

Although not baptized yet, Angie tells friends at school that she’s a Christian and she doesn’t participate in the Buddhist prayers and ceremonies anymore. The LHMT director has referred Angie to Concordia Into Light Lutheran Church to begin studying in preparation for baptism. Please pray that Angie will learn a lot and grow in her faith and understanding through these classes and that she will be baptized soon.

Receiving God’s Love Helps Listener Become More Loving

575258_376236279151903_293674435_nMs. Sirirat Saelim is from Sugnaikolok District, Naratiwas Province. She moved with her family and 2 children to Bangbuatong District, Nonthaburi Province. Whenever she went back home to Sugnaikolok District, Ms. Sirirat was able to listen to the LHMT radio program “Home for Love.” As a result of listening to this program several times, she became interested in learning more about Jesus Christ.

While listening to the radio program Ms. Sirirat heard about the LHMT Bible Correspondence Course (BCC). Because she wanted to learn more about the Christian faith, Ms. Sirirat enrolled in the BCC and currently is studying lesson 1 of the second course. She says, “The correspondence courses have helped me to know the love and compassion of God and I’ve applied what I’ve learned to my life. It has helped me love others more as well as encouraged me in my daily living.”

The LHMT team suggested Ms. Sirirat continue listening to the “Home for Love” radio program, when she moved to Bangbuatong district, which is available live on Sweet F.M. 89.5 MHz. Ms. Sirirat also shared that the “Home for Love” program is very helpful and encouraging to her life. She had never been to church before. The LHMT team recommended that she attend Saparnluang Church in Bangbuatong, so that she can learn more and be nurtured by the church.

Ms. Sirirat recently came to know Jesus Christ. Please pray that she will grow in her faith and that her family also will come to know Jesus.
