Christmas Activities in front of LHMT office in Bangkok

???????????????????????????????From December 23-25 the LHMT staff did some special Christmas activities on the sidewalk in front of the LHMT ministry center.  Early morning, as people were walking by on their way to work or the market, and during the lunch time the LHMT staff played a recorded radio program about the true meaning of Christmas and had people sign up for a chance to win some prizes.  The personal information that the people gave will also be used for some follow-up activities.  A total of 171 people joined the activities during those three days.

Since LHMT started doing special activities in front of their ministry center on several holidays a few years ago, a number of non-Christian neighbors and businesses have asked to be part of the fun.  This year those neighbors donated items to be given as prizes.  The donations included 5 dolls, vouchers for free food at 2 local food stalls, cooked chickens from 2 other food stalls, 2 sets of shampoo and conditioner from a nearby hair salon and a Samsung mobile phone.

In addition to becoming a good way to make connections with individuals in the community, doing activities on special holidays in front of the ministry center is developing into an effective way to build closer relationships with neighbors and local businesses.  We all look forward to working together again on Children’s Day on January 11.

School Outreach for Christmas Activities in Saraburi Province

???????????????????????????????On December 17 the LHMT team continued the Christmas school outreach program in Saraburi Province.  The first presentation was at Wat Jadeengam School in Saraburi City from 9:00-11:30am.

Although this program was just for the 64 students in grades 1-6, the school director asked the team to do the English activity, rather than the “Red Boots” video.  For this school visit the LHMT team cooperated with Pastor Pongnakorn Sae Ueng from Rung Arun Saraburi Church and Pastor Soepanna Ditbanjong from Ruam Nimit Saraburi Church.

From 1:30-3:30pm that afternoon the team did the program for the 284 students at Wat Ban Oy School.  The pastor and members of Pantasanya Church also helped with this program.

On December 18 Pastor Pongnakorn Sae Ueng from Rung Arun Saraburi Church and Pastor Soepanna Ditbanjong from Ruam Nimit Saraburi Church were joined by the pastor and members from Prakun Prajaow Saraburi Church in helping the LHMT team at Wat Tongpumpuang School in Saraburi City.

The 534 students were split into two groups.  The students in grades 7-9 participated in the program from 9:00-10:30am and the students in grades 4-6 participated from 10:30-11:30am.  The LHMT team did the whole program for both groups, except for the “Red Boots” video.

In the afternoon the LHMT team visited the last school in this year’s Christmas School Outreach Program, Saohai Wimon Wittayanukun School.  With help from Pastor Pongnakorn Sae Ueng of Rung Arun Saraburi Church and Pastor Porntip Suthipanya of Prakun Prajaow Saraburi Church the team conducted the program for 274 students in grades 7-12.  Because they are older students, the team did not use the “Red Boots” video.

We thank God that everything went well.  The students and teachers enjoyed participating in the songs and activities and learning the true meaning of Christmas.  We especially thank Pastor Pongnakorn Sae Ueng, his wife and son and church members for all their help.  Our LHMT staff enjoyed working with them and look forward to working with them again in the future.

Christmas in Bangkok01On Saturday, December 14 the LHMT team led a special Christmas outreach program with the members of Concordia Into Light Lutheran Church in Bangkok.  The program was held in the parking area in front of the church. From 5:00-8:00pm the team led the singing of Christmas songs, handed out prizes and did other fun activities.

After showing the “Red Boots for Christmas” video, Pastor Taweep Oiwan gave a message about the true meaning of Christmas.

The people enjoyed some snacks and dinner during the evening and members of the Luther Institute Southeast Asia theological training program sang several special Christmas songs.  Of the more than 100 people who attended, most were from the community surrounding the church and a number of others were students in the English classes provided by the church.

School Outreach for Christmas Activities in Singburi Province

From December 11-13 the Lutheran Hour Ministries Thailand (LHMT) team conducted their annual Christmas school outreach at six schools in Singburi Province.  Pastor Patarapol Sae Lee from Sampan Thachang Church had participated in an ETS training led by LHMT.  During the training he learned about the Christmas school outreach and invited LHMT to do the program in Singburi this year.  Pastor Patarapon arranged for the presentations at the schools and he and his church members are conducting follow-up activities with the students and teachers.

On December 11 the LHMT team visited Wat Kreem School and did a program for students from grades 4-9.  From 9:00-11:30am they did fun activities, sang Christmas songs and gave prizes to the 137 students.  They also showed the “Red Boots for Christmas” video to help the students understand the true meaning of Christmas.

At the end of the video, LHMT staff, Mr. Siam, did a wrap-up of the story to be sure the students understood the meaning.  Because the school director wanted the students to have a chance to practice using English, LCMS missionary Dennis Denow led an activity in English that explained the true meaning of Christmas.

Pastor Kamol Tanan from ACET Thailand Organization said a prayer at the beginning of the program and Pastor Patarapol said a prayer when the program was finished.  As the students left, they all received a gift set from LHMT.  The gift sets included a Christmas tract, children’s testimonies about why they believe in Jesus, a Christmas notebook and a bracelet decorated with several colorful crosses.

In the afternoon the team went to Nonglee Wittiyakom School and conducted the same program from 1:00-3:30pm for 306 students in grades 1-9.

On December 12 the LHMT team went to Wat Glang Thakam Community School.  Pastor Kamol and Pastor Patarapol did the prayers and their church members assisted the LHMT team.  The team again did the fun activities, Christmas songs, “Red Boots” video and English presentation from 9:00-11:30am.  A total of 341 students from grades 1-9 participated in the activities.

From 1:00-3:30pm the LHMT team, Pastor Patarapol, his church members and Pastor Kamol visited Khai Bangrajan Wittayakom School.  They did the “Red Boots” video, English program and other activities for the 391 students there.

On December 13 the team, pastor and church members went to Bangrajan Wittaya School and conducted the program from 9:30-11:00am.  Because they did the activities only for the 1,158 students in grades 7-12, they did not show the “Red Boots” video.

From 2:00-3:30pm in the afternoon the team repeated the program without the video for the 407 students at Srisak Suwan Wittaya School.

We appreciate the excellent partners we had in Singburi.  They planned everything well and treated us very well.  We especially thank Pastor Patarapol for his good heart for serving God in his province.  Everyone enjoyed the program and we got very good feedback from the students, teachers and school directors.  They had a good time and appreciated learning the true meaning of Christmas.
