On November 30, 2013 the Lutheran Hour Ministries Thailand (LHMT) team traveled to Sampan Prasirit Church in Muang Lop Buri to conduct an Equipping the Saints evangelistic training.  The day was special, because Pastor Mongkonchai Ardsomboon hosted the training.  Both Pastor Mongkonchai and his wife are former staff members at LHMT.

Although 8 churches participated in the training, only 17 people attended.  For this training each church sent just a core group of people who were the most interested in doing evangelism.  In spite of the fact that the group was small, 7 people signed up to be LHMT commissioned volunteers and 16 joined the program to receive encouraging Gospel text messages on their cell phones each week.

The LHMT staff did the usual 7 training modules and some fun songs.  The people who attended were very enthusiastic and really appreciated receiving the training.  They found the ideas that were shared that day to be very practical and useful for witnessing to their non-Christian family and friends.

One church wants some of their children and adults to begin studying the LHMT Bible Correspondence Courses, so that their faith and understanding of the Bible can be deepened.  The BCC can also be used to help unbelievers learn more about who Jesus is and what he has done for them.

All of the participants asked LHMT to follow up with them after one month to see how the training is working for them in their communities.  LHMT staff plan to contact them again through letters and possibly with another visit.

Those who attended said that they would like to see the ETS training expanded.  They thought that one day wasn’t enough for them to learn everything well.  They hope that in the future LHMT will make the ETS training a two-day program.

We thank God for the successful training and for the very positive feedback from everyone who participated.

Monsoon Rains Didn’t Dampen the Day

LG Phang Nga 2013

Radio Speaker, Mr. Prawit Chularangsi presenting his radio program to the audience

Concordia Khok Kloi Lutheran Church in Phang Nga Province was the location of a Lutheran Hour Ministries Thailand (LHMT) Listener Gathering on November 23, 2013.  Hosted by Pastor Suchart Chujit, the Listener Gathering focused on the “Cheerful Life” radio program.

Nearly 70 people attended, in spite of the fact that the area experienced a very hard Monsoon rain, which made it difficult for many people who rode to the church on their motorcycles.  About half of the people who participated were regular listeners.   The other 35 people came because the LHMT team went into the local market and other parts of the town to talk about the Listener Gathering and to invite everyone to attend.

The heavy rain didn’t dampen the spirits of the participants.  They really enjoyed singing the songs, playing the fun games, winning prizes and meeting the LHMT staff and radio speaker, Mr. Prawit Chularangsi.  Mr. Prawit took the opportunity to introduce his program and encourage everyone to tune in regularly.

One of the best benefits of the day was that Mr. Prawit and the LHMT were able to interact personally with people and build some good relationships.

The next day, November 24, the LHMT staff and Mr. Prawit conducted another Listener Gathering at Concordia Takuapa Lutheran Church.  Pastor Suchart Srikakarn and some of his church members hosted nearly 60 people for the day.  Of those who attended, 22 were listeners.  The others came to enjoy the games, songs and prizes and to learn about Lutheran Hour Ministries Thailand and the “Cheerful Life” radio program.

Although the LHMT team had to ride in a van for 12 hours to reach Phang Nga Province and to return to Bangkok, they were very pleased with the results of their trip.

LHMT Does Gathering in a New Area

Fountain Spring Church in Nakon Pathom Province operates a community radio station as one way to share the Gospel with people in the area around the church.  One difficulty the pastor and church members face is producing enough programs to fill the air time.  Because Pastor Sangworn Duangkam is a former staff member of Lutheran Hour Ministries Thailand (LHMT), he knew about the radio programs that we produce.  Fountain Spring Church is currently using a number of radio programs produced by LHMT.

One program that the church uses is “Because You are Loved.”  Many people in that neighborhood listen to the program and find it very helpful.  On November 3, 2013 LHMT radio speaker Mr. Chumpol Khumpanyam and some LHMT staff conducted a Listener Gathering at Fountain Spring Church.  This is the first time that LHMT has done a program in that area.  More than 50 listeners came and enjoyed a day of songs, games and a fun time together with Mr. Chumpol, the LHMT staff and the pastor and members of Fountain Spring Church.

Mr. Chumpon shared the meaning of the “Because You are Loved” radio program and the LHMT staff explained about the various LHMT ministries.  Pastor Sangworn gave some encouraging words that fit with the radio program.  He told the participants that the reason they are loved is because God loves them so much.

This Listener Gathering gave Pastor Sangworn and the church members a good chance to meet some of the people who listen to the church’s radio programs and to begin building relationships with them.  We pray that there will be more opportunities in the near future to spend time with the listeners and to share the Gospel with them.
