Practical Training Leads to Future Cooperation

Lutheran Hour Ministries Thailand (LHMT) conducts Equipping the Saints training six times every year.  The most recent one was held on September 15, 2012 at Sampan Ulok Si Muen Church in Tha Maka District, Kanchanaburi Province, which is 140 kilometers (84 miles) from Bangkok.

A total of 50 participants from two churches and two preaching stations attended the training.  They enjoyed the training and found it to be very practical.  They were happy to learn more about the LHMT ministry and to get to know the LHMT staff.  At the end of the training they said that they were interested in cooperating with LHMT in doing a school outreach program in their area.

Some of the participants were interested in having more involvement with LHMT and nine people agreed to become commissioned volunteers.  Also, 34 attendees asked to join the program to receive Gospel text messages from LHMT each week.

We thank God for safe travel and that everything went well during the training.  We look forward to the possibility of working together with SampanUlokSiMuenChurch and other churches on a school outreach program in the future.

People Attend Listener Gathering in Spite of Heavy Rains

In honor of Queen Sirikit, her birthday on August 12 is a national holiday and has been designated as Mother’s Day among the Thai people.   Lutheran Hour Ministries Thailand (LHMT) took the opportunity to do a Listener Gathering on Monday, August 13, which was the substitution day for the Queen’s birthday.  The Listener Gathering was held at Ruam Prakhun Church in Bangbon District in Bangkok.

The day’s activities began with radio speaker Chumpol Khumphanyaem doing a live broadcast of the “Because You Are Loved” program from 2:00-3:00pm.  Several listeners called in to ask questions about the program and the message that was being shared.

From 4:00-6:00pm the LHMT director and staff conducted a Listener Gathering for 50 people.  In addition to doing some games, fun activities and singing songs, a special activity for children to do with their mothers was planned to connect with the theme of Mother’s Day.  Pastor Somkiet Limpisouk also gave a message about God’s love to all who attended.

We thank God for the number of people who attended.  Because this was the first time that we did a Listener Gathering in that area, we weren’t sure how many people would come.  Many of them had to face very heavy monsoon rains on their way to the church.  Although it was very difficult for them to get there, everyone who participated was very enthusiastic and enjoyed the afternoon’s activities.

The LHMT director and staff were able to make some good connections with the people and helped some of them be introduced to the pastor and church members.
