Children Outreach Activity

The National Children’s Day in Thailand is always on the second Saturday of January.  The purpose, like in other countries, is to let the public know the importance and needs of children and to encourage children to recognize the importance of their role in the country.  Children’s Day also plants the seed for the idea of children participating in society and preparing them to be workers.  Each year the prime minister of Thailand gives the Children’s Day theme.  This year it was “Be Creative, Seek Knowledge Diligently, and Value Morality”.

To accomplish the slogan of the National Children’s Day and for the purpose of promoting the Christian view, LHM partnered with the Suriyawong School in Muang District of Ratchaburi Province.  On January 8 we conducted the Children’s Outreach Activity for 924 primary and secondary school children.  Because of the large number of students, we had to do two sessions.

Under the slogan for the day we encouraged these young people to creatively express their ideas through group activities.  In one of the activities, “My Dream”, the students wrote down their hopes for the future and shared their ideas with the other students.  The LHM staff also performed the play “Going Home” (which was adapted from the Prodigal Son).  By using the Word of God in these activities, we gave a good introduction to the role of youth in the family and society.

We are thankful that the students had lots of fun through the meaningful performance and activities on Children’s Day.  We had a chance to pray for them and invite them to learn more about God through the BCC and other media that we have.  The school appreciated our work very much and invited us to lead some Christian sessions at their school camp in March.

Found Good News on the Radio

Amnart Khem-on, Supunburi Province

Mr. Amnart Khem-on was born on January 15, 1973. He told us that he used to be a naughty and stubborn child and often disregarded the schools rules until many teachers who taught him were fed up with him.  He relied on himself and was not afraid of anyone and liked to use force because he was very strong.  However, when he became an adult he became confused and was not content with the way he led his life.  He then decided to search for something that would give him an answer to his life.

At the end of the year 2009 all of a sudden he remembered what happened when he was in grade 3 when he received a tract from someone who was giving out tracts to the school children.  The tracts were about God and at that time he was not interested.  However, an older student read the tract to him.  He found it really strange that he could recall the message on the tract.  He now wanted to know about God and wondered where one could find God.  As he turned the radio dial and listening until he came to the radio station on 89.55 MHz where the deejay was talking about God and he could remember that he listened to the radio from noon until it became dark in the evening.  There were several programs from LHM Thailand such as “This Home for Love,” “Because You are Loved,” and “The Cheerful Life.”  He paid a lot of attention listening and asked his nephew where the station was.  He could hardly believe the answer that the radio station was less than 10 kilometers from his home but he had no interest then.  He decided to phone the radio station and talked to our radio speaker and telling that he had been listening to the programs and wanted to know more about God.  The radio speaker invited him to attend church on Sunday which was during the Christmas season.  He listened with keen interest and has been listening to the programs every time he has opportunity.  Because of God’s saving grace he has received Jesus into his heart.

As he is an employee doing follow up on daily loans he is often unable to attend church.  However, when he is home he attends church every time.  He says “God has made me more patient and I am determined to learn more about God and want to be baptized.  I thank the radio speaker of all the programs that helped me to know God.” Currently, he is being nurtured by Pawntawee Church in Nongyasai District in Supunburi Province.  Please remember him in your prayers that he will grow in the way of God and be ready for baptism in the near future.

Listener Gatherings

The LHM Thailand had conducted two Listener Gatherings for the radio program at Phang Nga Province.  It was the first time that this radio program conducted the gatherings at the local radio stations.  On December 12, 2009 we conducted the gathering at Voice of Navy Phang Nga Station in Khok Kloi Sub District, Phang Nga Province.  There were nearly 150 participants attended the event.  The program went well and we received the good cooperation from the local station and church.  The listeners were happy with the activities, fun games, prizes, Christmas songs and the true meaning of Christmas had expressed through the event by the local pastor.  Our radio speaker, Mr. Prawit Jularangsi had the chance to meet with his new listeners and promoted his program as well.

Also the Listener Gathering at Takaupa Radio Thailand Station in Takuapa District went well with the 70 listeners on December 13, 2009.   We thank God that the event was successful with the good cooperation from the local station even some listeners couldn’t make it as planned.  We did the activities as we did at the previous gathering.  After we returned to Bangkok we did the contact with 156 listeners who turned in the personal contact information form and invited them to study in the BCC and join in other ministries.  The churches in Phang Nga will now do the follow-up with the listeners.

School Christmas Outreach

This is the second year that LHM Thailand has conducted a Christmas outreach program in schools in southern Thailand.  In response to invitations from the Full Gospel Church in Chumporn, Chumporn Province and the Full Gospel Church in Guiburi, Prachuap Kiri Khan Province, the LHM Thailand staff partnered with the local pastors, their wives and the church ministry teams to produce programs to share the true meaning of Christmas with nearly 4,500 students and teachers in 1 Catholic and 9 government schools from December 13-18, 2009.  The true meaning of Christmas was shared through an activity that used a different word for each letter in Christmas.  We told the students that Christmas was the time when Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus, because Jesus was God coming to earth to live among us.  The words for each letter in CHRISTMAS help to understand the true meaning and importance of Christmas.

Ten students assisted us in this presentation.  Nine students each held up a letter in front of the audience and the tenth student held each word as we talked about the meanings.  By the end of the presentation we had spelled CHRISTMAS in large letters across the front of the room.
